artBOX at Morey's Piers
*Disclosure – We were invited to enjoy a family weekend at Morey's Piers. Our visit included complimentary accommodations for two nights (one room) at the Starlux; daily continental breakfast; three-day ride and waterpark passes; $25 per person credit for Joe’s Fish Co. (alcohol not included); and a variety pack of vouchers to use during your stay such as one free game per person, a barrel of Curley’s Fries, and more. In exchange I was asked to share my experiences. All opinions are my own.During one of our afternoons at Morey's Piers the girls were invited to do an art activity at artBOX. Since my girls are all over art projects I knew they would be thrilled to take a break for the boardwalk excitement to do an art activity.
Visit [artBOX], a 10,000 square foot interactive artists' colony. Visual and musical arts come together with the traditional loud, upbeat boardwalk way of life. Made up of 11 brightly colored re-purposed shipping containers, [artBOX] boasts artists-in-residence crafting unique works of art and features 5 artist studios and the Exit Zero Store all in a 10,000 square foot space. Guests can observe handpicked regional artists at work in their retooled containers, and browse the paintings and handmade crafts inclduing; surf art, glass blowing and more.
While both of the girls love crafts and art... they are very different in their style. Zoe was all over the idea of decorating her own skateboard and using the spray paints. It was a really cool project and now I have to get on to my job of getting the deck set with a grip pad and wheels. It looks like we might have a skate boarder on our hands... which goes right along with Zoe's love of riding all things fasts.
Ana was a little more low key in choosing her activity. (A skate boarder she will not be.) She went inside one of the cool shipping container studios and decorated a really pretty paper lantern (complete with battery powered light). The end result was really pretty cool.
The artBOX is an awesome addition to the Adventure Pier. I know that the idea of taking a break for the excitement of the rides and water parks was really a nice change. It's not your normal Jersey Shore boardwalk activity. I imagine a lot of people (kids and adults) are going to have some amazing times with artBOX.
In addition to the art activities available to participate in... artBOX also hosts some awesome NJ artists. Some of the creations that you can find (both completed and in progress) include glassblowing, street art, and murals.
