St. Thomas, U.S.V.I - Cruise Day 4

Wednesday 2/27/08

In St. Thomas our shore excursion was called the "Ultimate Island Experience". It included a scenic drive/tour of the island and a few stop offs that allowed us to take in quite a few breathtaking views.

I believe our ship was the last one on the right.

A man had this donkey at our first roadside stop. He was happy to let you take pictures or to take a photo for you... and just asked that you give him whatever you felt was appropriate. I wonder how much he makes a day?

Our next stop off was to look down at Magen's Bay. This was the beach where we were going to stop for some swimming and lunch.

We arrived at Magen's Bay and Zoe quickly found some friends. I believe these girls all actually spoke French... but that didn't stop Zoe from joining right in with their sand play.

The water was a little chilly, but it was nice was you got used to it. There were also some little fishies swimming around... but they didn't bother us.

Zoe really enjoyed swimming. I think it was a change from the ocean swimming she's used to. Because of the shape of the bay there were very few waves... and the waves that did come through were barely noticeable.

Before getting ready to continue our tour we had lunch at the beach snack bar. I can say my cheeseburger was delicious... and Zoe and I really enjoyed sharing a Mango Smoothie. Of course, as we were sitting to eat, Zoe couldn't resist making friends with a few local children. They were with their mom who was doing hair braiding. If there are kids around Zoe MUST play with them.

We Magen's Bay for our next tour stop... 17th Century Blackbeard's Castle. We're not really sure about everything that was there to see. When our group arrived the site was only open for another 30 minutes or so. We were disappointed that we didn't get to have more time there. It seemed like that had quite a nice historic self-guided tour, but we didn't have the time for it.

We did take most of our time enjoying the scenery and the pool.

When we were told the pool was closing we headed to the changing rooms and got ready to walk down to the town before heading back to the ship.

Part of our walk included getting down the "99 steps" with Zoe's stroller. It was an experience. Obviously we survived.

After getting to the town we decided we didn't really want to do any shopping. We'd had quite a busy time and were ready to head back to the ship to enjoy our view for a while and then take a snooze.

Because I couldn't resist... a photo of our balcony.

We all took a lovely nap and woke up to start our usually nightly routine. Showering and getting ready, dinner, Zoe to camp, Nick and I to the show and casino. I believe this is the night that we bought 20 scratch off tickets before the show. I just felt like we should REALLY play scratch off cards (Instead of playing BINGO again). I'd like to say we won big... but no such luck. After trading in a couple $2 wins for more cards we left with nothing won. We did get a couple raffle tickets out of it though. For every 10 cards you bought you got a raffle ticket for a drawing being held Saturday night. So, we got 2 and I stuck them in our bag.

Before picking up Zoe from camp we took a quick shot of the ships main pool deck all lit up at night.

We were back in our room to meet our newest towel creature. He was a pretty cute puppy and Zoe insisted he sit next to her crib while she slept.

An exhausting but lovely day in St. Thomas.
