Visiting the Absecon Lighthouse with #JerseyLove

Disclosure: The #JerseyLove Retreat was sponsored in part by D6 Sports and Caesar’s Entertainment. We had wonderful sponsors for this trip... but we also paid to attend and received no monetary compensation for our time.  Photos are mine, or thanks to Rita at Pui Pui Photography as noted by watermark.

As part of my #JerseyLove weekend Nick and I signed up to climb the 228 stairs of the Absecon Lighthouse in Atlantic City.  I have to admit, we've been to AC a number of times and had no idea the Absecon Lighthouse was even there.

Not only is there a lighthouse in Atlantic City... but it is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey, and the 3rd tallest in the US.

Halfway!!!

After we made it to the top of the lighthouse (and took a moment to catch our breath) we were able to chat with Buddy, one of the lighthouse volunteers.

Listening to Buddy, the lighthouse expert.

Buddy is a truly friendly and totally knowledgeable man.  He is so enthusiastic about sharing his information.  I love meeting someone who you can just tell loves what he's doing.  He has volunteered a few days a week for years, and the weekend we were visiting he was also working added days to cover for a vacationing co-worker.  It was amazing to me that in his 80s, Buddy is climbing the 228 steps on almost a daily basis.

Thank you Buddy, for sharing your love of the Absecon Lighthouse.

The next time Nick and I head over to Atlantic City we'll have to make a stop to visit Buddy again.  Hopefully, it will be a sunny day and we can get a true view of the Jersey Shore from the top of the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey.
