Florida - Day Three

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Since my parents live in Orlando now we figure we might as well take advantage and visit the local celebrities as often as possible. You know, Mickey Mouse and all his friends. We spent a day at the Magic Kingdom... and we had a great time. Beautiful 80 degree sunshiny weather... and pretty short lines.

We started our day off by freaking Zoe out a little. She was not fond of the Pirates (hopefully we won't see any while we're in the Caribbean next week!) Even while standing in line she wanted to turn around and leave. Next we took her to see the Tiki Birds (which I thought would be pleasant enough for her) but the thunderstorm had her huddled in my chest. The Jungle Cruise may have been good... but we sat right up front and had a rather loud boat captain... and Zoe was convinced he was going to drive us under the waterfall. And finally... the Haunted Mansion... let's just say not Zoe's favorite ride. From the moment we walked into the building she started telling us very insistently "We need to get out of here! We need to get out of here, now!" I think the shirt I was wearing has a permanent imprint of her face now. Now that you're thinking we're so very mean to subject our toddler to such scariness... I let you know that once the rides were over and we asked her if she liked them, each ride got a "yes" answer. Well, every ride but the ghosts. She let us know that "ghosts scare me".

She quickly recovered when we made it to Fantasy Land. Her favorite rides were Cinderella's carousel and the Dumbo ride.... closely followed by It's a Small World. Nick seems to think we can skip paying for Disney again and just find any local fairs that have carousels and rides that go around in circles and up and down. I disagree.

Zoe was very excited to meet Mickey Mouse right up until the time it was her turn to talk to him. Then she changed her mind. After standing in line we weren't skipping it though. I scooped her up in my arms and we had a family picture taken. Zoe looks quite nervous. As soon as we were away from Mickey she was pretty excited that she had met him. She quickly forgot how nervous he made her.

At the end of the day we were all exhausted (and we went on a day they closed at 7 instead of 10!!!). I think we all agree we had a great day. I'm glad we were able to get there on such a beautiful day.
